Solution Equilibria

Research Activities

The research activity is focused on the study of metal complexes for applications in environmental and biomedical chemistry.
A key research line concerns the investigation of the solution equilibria of metal–ligand systems (mainly involving pyronic and pyridinonic ligands, such as kojic acid and deferiprone-based compounds, respectively) aimed at determining stability constants and developing speciation models under different conditions of temperature, ionic strength, and media related to real matrices of natural and physiological relevance.
The studies are carried out using a multi-technique approach, including potentiometry and UV-Vis spectrophotometry, supported by NMR and EPR spectroscopy.
In parallel, the activity includes the quantitative analysis of micro- and macroelements in water samples, as well as chemometric data treatment of several Sardinian drinking
waters.
