Our Department DISCI The Department, under its new name Department of Chemical, Physical, Mathematical and Natural Sciences (DISCI), was established in April 2022 (D.DG. Rep. No. 1315/2022, Prot. No. 40267 of 12/04/2022).The new Department serves as a hub for fundamental, applied, and environmental sciences. The scientific expertise it encompasses provides the foundation for the development of innovative, interdisciplinary, and competitive teaching activities, research lines, and Third Mission initiatives at both national and international levels. The Department's strength lies in the integration of various experimental, theoretical, and computational scientific disciplines: botany, chemistry, ecology, physics, geology, and mathematics. The research conducted finds application in several fields: environmental science, cultural heritage, biology, chemistry, energy, pharmacology, and agri-food — all in line with the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) and the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda. The Department of Chemical, Physical, Mathematical and Natural Sciences promotes the development of research across various disciplinary fields through collaboration with national and international research institutes and centers, companies operating both in Italy and abroad, national parks and marine protected areas, local authorities, and ministries. The Department considers the international dimension of research and teaching essential, along with a continuous focus on the unique features of the local territory and environment, the industrial landscape, technology transfer, and Third Mission activities. The Department reached its current structure only in 2023. It now includes 41 faculty members: 5 Full Professors, 20 Associate Professors, 5 Permanent Researchers, and 11 Fixed-term Researchers. The Department’s educational offering includes the following degree programs: Chemistry (Bachelor’s Degree – Class L-27), Natural Sciences (Bachelor’s Degree – Class L-32), Chemical Sciences (Master’s Degree – Class LM-54), which is an international program, and Environmental Conservation, Restoration and Sustainability (Master’s Degree – Class LM-75).The Department of Chemical, Physical, Mathematical and Natural Sciences offers advanced postgraduate education through the PhD program in Chemical Sciences and Technologies, established in collaboration with the University of Cagliari (UNICA). The Department serves as the administrative headquarters for the current three-year cycle (Cycle XL).In addition, several faculty members from the Department participate in the PhD programs in Agricultural Sciences and in Architecture and Environment offered by the University. The Department is actively involved in the National Plan for Scientific Degrees (Piano Nazionale Lauree Scientifiche – PLS) in Chemistry and Natural and Environmental Sciences, under which it organizes educational laboratories and teacher training courses.
